SONYA Studio Stroll - June 9 & 10

My work is being included in this year's SONYA art walk at both Bar Olivino (a swank little wine and cheese bar at 899 Fulton), and Olivino, the wine store located a few doors down. Both are between Clinton Ave & Vanderbilt Ave in Clinton Hill, Brooklyn.

I'll have two different bodies of work showing: Permanent Home and Plastic Bags.

Drink wine, eat cheese, look at Art. What's not to like?

Sneak Peek at New Work: Lost in the Loud Silence

Lost in a Loud Silence explores a tumultuous moment in time. Through an array of emotions, and on towards transformation, Clara wrestles with her relationship as she struggles to make a decision about her life.

Alienated in the suburbs, the silence is deafening. She uses breadcrumbs to find her way back through her large house. To comfort herself she sits under the glow of parking lot lights, telepathically communicating with her power animal, listening to long stories from seashells and gradually finding her way.

I am delighted by and grateful to my team of talented and fun people to work with!

Kotorino

Had a great shoot with one of my favorite Brooklyn bands Kotorino!

The sun beat down on us but we managed to stay in the shade by circling around my sister Molly White's beautiful backyard.

Great people, great band. Playing Joe's Pub June 29 - a show that is not to be missed!

Maya Lin - What Is Missing

Maya Lin's new project What Is Missing is an interactive site that allows you to learn about the disappearing creatures and environments on our planet. It is composed of a "Map of Memory" made out of dots, each one a story. Change the Timeline from past to present, and now each dot represents conservation efforts. You can also add your own memories to the map.

Like all of Maya Lin's projects it is simple, graceful, and rich with emotion.

Hillman Curtis

It is not often that we are touched by someone so genuine, and gifted, that we feel awed in their presence. That is how I felt when I met Hillman Curtis, and talked about art with him.

I am so sad to hear of his passing. I am humbled and honored to have known him and worked with him and hold his memory dear.

His website features a sort of farewell film that he made about himself. After countless interviews of others he turns the camera on himself and talks about the theme of his life being Reinvention. Nothing could be more true or more inspiring. I hope you'll watch it and remember his magic.

The infamous, non biodegradable, plastic bag re-examined.

Considering that plastic bags are still not biodegradable and that they remain in wide usage, they have the ability to stir emotions. Just one plastic bag in a tree or on the beach is enough to make a girl feel hopeless about the current state of our environment. "To ease her mind she arranged plastic bags for the camera, studying the material, altering their shapes, hoping for a new perspective."

Recent Work: Lost In A Loud Silence

Tests for new project: Lost in a Loud Silence, exploring a woman's thought process as she sojourns through a tumultuous moment in time. Set in the lush landscape of suburban New Jersey, she takes comfort in the warm neon glow of parking lot lights and reflections in the abandoned watermill reservoir, trying to see through the clutter to the wonder of life.
