One of my favorite bands B is for Baroness starring Molly White put out their debut album recently and will be playing from it this Friday night, April 16, at Pete's Candy Store. An exciting guest star appearance will be made by the ravishing Ms. Sandra Malack from The World/Inferno Friendship Society who will be singing and playing bass.
B is for Baroness takes a stab at the dramatic incantations of the original torch songs, breaking them over bended knee, pulling out the venom, and kneading them into recognizable shapes; some sweet and simple, others traditionally filled out and conforming to the warmest parts of a French chanson, a Mexican ballad, a retrofit samba or grrrl rock classic. Lush vocal harmonies mix together with stories of love, loss and affection.
I photographed Molly for her record last summer in the Hollywood Hills where she wrote and recorded the album. Many of these images made it into the final packaging I am happy to announce!
